Lo que impulsó al autor a escribir el presente texto fue el ver el triste espectáculo que presentan los jóvenes colegas cuando salen frescos de la escuela y deben enfrentarse al problema de tratar casos; por ello, ha elaborado este texto para proporcionar un poco de experiencia a estos jóvenes practicantes que tienden a a caer en una gran serie de errores, a fin de ofrecerles confianza en los diversos casos que pueden tratar una vez que salen de la escuela a poner en práctica la teoría vista en las aulas.

Born in a middle class family in North Kanara in 1915, he had his schooling in Honavar. He used to top the class in school and in the matriculation examination held in 1933, in the then Bombay State, he was among the first 100. He could not pursue his studies owing to pecuniary difficulties and took up a job in the Oriental Life Insurance Co. in 1935. By dint of sincere devotion to duty he rose, from humble beginning to the position of Assistant Secretary (Development) in the L.I.C., before he retired in January 1975. During the last few years in service, as he held a responsible position in the Development Dept., concerned with the training of Life Insurance agents, Mr. Gunavante took active part in two training seminars and wrote a number of booklets for training the agents in their sales and servicing work. He was also commissioned to write a textbook on ""Marketing"" for fellowship students of the Federation of Insurance Institutes.
