This book Essentials of Boger’s Principle and Practice of Homoeopathy is a ‘collection’ to ‘connect’ the scattered valuable concepts deliberated by Boger which delineates the principles and the methodology of rational and successful clinical practice of Homoeopathy. These were lying unattended in the form of lectures, presentations, discussions with contemporary stalwarts and practitioners, case analysis and prescriptions by Boger at various time and circumstances at different platforms. This missionary work was accomplished through a thorough and intense search and compilation of all the useful literatures pertaining to Homoeopathy education and practice of the period of Boger (1890-1935). Only those articles which are found to be very meaningful and necessary for the students and practitioners are included in this book.

Boger was a voracious reader of Homoeopathic literature and was a man who believed in verifying the principles through practice before advocating it. Boger had a great role in reorganizing and modifying the dynamics of homoeopathy into practical homoeopathy.

A compilation of 66 write ups also could be referred to as ‘piece of gems’ on homoeopathy which are being placed as an assembled jewel in a book form made out of very precious pearls found lying at different places. It is expected that these pearls will certainly add to the wealth of Homoeopathy.

Sources - These lessons are related to the Principles of homoeopathy, Philosophy, Materia Medica, and Therapeutics as well as Repertory therefore essentially beneficial to all the learners of this rational art of healing.

A glance through the topics – Law of Cure, The philosophy of Similia, Finding the Similimum with the help of the Family Anamnesis, What Divides Us?, Choosing The Remedy, Choosing The Remedy, Gymnacladu and many more.

There are a number of very interesting cases reproduced in this book which are successfully dealt with by Boger. One can really enjoy reading those cured cases and derive practical learning from each case.

    Dr. R Samaran

At present Homoeopathic Students and Practioners are exposed to various new concepts and doctrines in Homoeopathy and many literatures by old Masters are buried deep beneath the sands of time. Dr. Boger is one such master Homeopath, who had taken homoeopathy to next level, by offering a deep insight into all aspects of the science of Homoeopathy through his writings and discussions on Homoeopathic philosophy, Materia Medica, Repertory constructions and other original writings. Unfortunately, Bogers’s work is scattered throughout many books and journals in such a way that accessing the information is a difficult and tedious work. Prof.Dr.Shashi Kant Tiwari had meticulously collected the scattered pearls of Boger writings and woven them into an excellent compilation titled “Essentials of Boger’s Principles & Practice of Homoeopathy” It offers a full and accurate description of Boger’s teachings on Homoeopathy. This book contains 66 chapters which, covers all the most important contribution of Boger to Homoeopathic literature on -Principles & Philosophy, Monographs, Materia Medica, Repertory constructions, Discussions, Clinical cases, Therapeutics and other original writings published in The Recorder, The IHA Transactions and other homoeopathic publications. Each chapters covers the Homoeopathic essence in a brief and easily comprehensible language. To mention few experts from the book-Boger states that, the homoeopathist should know his tools thoroughly , this means access to and ability to use sound Homoeopathic books , he has particularly mentioned Hahnemann’s Organon & Chronic Diseases, Boeninghausen’s Characteristics and Repertory, Jahr’s Forty Years ,Wheeler’s The case of Homoeopathy, Burnett’s Fifty Reasons, Nash Leaders, Farrington’s Lectures, Kent’s Lectures, Hahnemann’s and Allen’s Materia Medica and his Synoptic key , He said Homoeopathist guided by these books will inevitably lead him to getting better results. He gives importance to the single dose -wait and watch method. Boger has cited that Hahnemann obtained his antipsoric symptoms only from doses of the primary sort almost exclusively, as primary symptoms stand in the front rank for curative purposes far out classing the secondary ones. He also states that symptoms collected can be systematized and categorized for study under-Subjective, Objective, General, Special, Modalities, Periodicity, Pyrexia. He also spoke on the disadvantages of Keynote prescription. Boger points out clearly that Hahnemann limits the characteristics to the individualizing symptoms of natural disease and not to those which the patient possesses as a constitutional Idiosyncrasy. Boger describes Energy in a threefold form in Human body- Physical energy in the tissues, Dynamic energy in the brain and nervous system and the Spiritual in the mind. Boger gives preference to ascending scale of potency, he also describes if the patient has stopped progress and is doing nothing, the “do nothing’’ stage itself can be considered as symptom and remedies like Opium, Phosphoric acid, Thuja or Sulphur can be considered. Boger also writes that in unilateral cases and Patients without characteristic symptoms, simillimum can be derived with family anamnesis- Comparison of patient’s current disease tendencies with disease tendencies of his blood relationships. Boger states that after prescription the state of illness remains same or change. The later has three possibilities, the condition is ameliorated, aggravated or disease alters its symptom complex and accordingly what has to be done. He also states real cure occurs when symptoms recede from above downwards, within outward and in reverse order of their coming. The Boger’s articles are mesmerizing and once we start reading, it motivates the reader, to dive further deep into this treasure trove of knowledge. It is an amalgamation of all related subjects of Homoeopathy and Medicine in general. There are many clinical cases, Therapeutics, many chapters in the end have an honest discussion of the concepts by different stalwarts of Homoeopathy. This book is a must for all the serious students, teachers, practioners and enthusiasts of Homoeopathy. A special thanks to Prof.Dr.Shashi Kant Tiwari and B.Jain Publishers(P) Ltd, for compiling and publishing the Boger’s Masterpiece. I am grateful and feel honored to pen down my review of this wonderful book. Thank you

There was no any book on Boger's philosophy for principles and practice of Homoeopathy like Kent's philosophy, Robert 's philosophy, Dunhum' s philosophy. This book is a “collection” to “link” the dispersed useful notions considered by Boger, which defines the fundamentals and the methodology of logical and effective clinical practice of homoeopathy. This book contains 56 chapter in 326 pages about concepts, philosophy and different topics on Homoeopathy. Dr Rupesh Tiwary

“Essentials of Boger’s Principle and Practice of Homoeopathy” by Prof. Dr Shashi Kant Tiwari is the compilation of 66 articles written by Dr Cyrus Maxwell Boger. Dr. Boger does not need any introduction in the field of homoeopathy. He has left the colossal footprints upon Hahnemannian Homoeopathy which is loved and recognized by every conscientious student of homoeopathic science. Apart from Boger Boenninghausen's Characteristics & Repertory, Synoptic Key to the Materia Medica, Card index Repertory and General analysis, Time of Remedies & Moon Phases there is a compilation of 28 articles regarding different topics of homoeopathy were published under the title “Studies in the philosophy of Healing” by Roy & Co. though the name of the compiler is missing in the available prints. At present for Indian book market this book will serve as the milestone for understanding and learning the teachings of homoeopathy from Boger’s point of view. This book contains 43 more articles than “The Studies in the philosophy of Healing”. 23 articles are common in both these books. The article “Thoughts on the philosophy of healing” is available as “Studies in the philosophy of healing” in the present book. The articles not included in present book from “The Studies in the philosophy of Healing” are as follows: 1) Causticum 2) Cobaltum 3) Coccus Cacti 4) Magnesia Carbonica 5) Syphilinum The book begins with the preface followed by the life history of Dr Cyrus Maxwell Boger. There After some articles related to General discussion to homoeopathy (from article no 1 to article no 8). From article no 9 to article no 45 various topics related to general homoeopathic philosophy( For example Case taking, case analysis & evaluation of symptoms, follow up analysis, suppression and drug proving etc) are discussed. . Article no. 45 is specifically about the clinical verification which is vital for clinical understanding. Article no 46 to article no 58 are related to homoeopathic therapeutics which is special point of interest for the clinicians. After that Article no. 59 to Article no 64 is related to Materia Medica. Few special articles regarding genus epidemicus and veterinary homoeopathy is worth reading. For handling the one sided and underdeveloped cases one can get wonderful tip from the 39th article apart from many other hints scattered in different articles. “Relationship of homoeopathy to pathology” will be definitely eye opener for the practioners who neglects the significance of pathology in homoeopathic prescriptions. So, this book contains various articles regarding case taking, case analysis and therapeutics of different clinical conditions like Cancer, obstetrics, tuberculosis, panaratia, climacterics, repertory, etc which means it’s a complete package for every homoeopath from beginners to academicians as well as research scholars. We hope that the original sources of the articles will be added along with the date of publication in future editions which will be more helpful for tracing Boger’s comprehensive developmental journey as prescient sage. As because there is no other book regarding Dr. Boger’s works available with such a huge collection, this may prove as essential book for the PGTs of Materia Medica, Organon of Medicine as well as Repertory and other branches also. Prof. Dr. Shashi Kant Tiwari has definitely addressed this much awaited need of the homoeopathic fraternity. I wish this book to be the part of BHMS syllabus so that the future students may get these wonderful ideas for lucid understanding of homoeopathy as the mandatory part of their syllabus. Dr .V. Sathish Kumar

The aim of this book is to connect the scattered concepts of Boger in order to practice successfully in clinical point of view. Boger had a great role in reorganizing the dynamics of homoeopathy into practical homoeopathy. This he has done through delivering lectures, discussions, etc among that 66 “piece of gems” are added to this compilation. This book contains principles of homoeopathy, philosophy, materia medica and therapeutics as well as repertory. In order to give clear cut idea of the principles of homoeopathy this book has been compiled with the sources from Kent lectures, principles and art of cure by Stuart Close. This book also includes biography of Dr. Cyrus Maxwell Boger and publishers note. It contains 66 chapters with short profile of author at the end. It contains explanation regarding the homoeopathy which is the only system which teaches the medicine in its fullness, where each and every student can work based on law of action and reaction. Homoeopaths are real vitalists. It includes about how the homoeopaths should be, how to hard work like master in order to attain perfect cure. This also states that Hahnemann was not ignorant regarding the germ borne disease and that dynamized remedies are sufficient for their cure. Importance of similia similibus curanter and in order to obtain cure, it is most important to observe each and every minute things from the patient. The author has mentioned the importance of reading. Clarke’s homoeopathy, Burnett’s “50 reasons for being a homoeopath”, Hahnemann’s organon, Kent’s philosophy, Nash leader, Farrington’s materia medica and repertory are some of the books the author has referred from. True learning begins when we place the bias aside and preconceived idea aside, and have explained regarding the teaching method in colleges in order to attain cure in patients. The author has illustrated the struggle between dynamism and materialism. The author extraordinarily explicated what homoeopathy means, how it was former and how it is improving along with the science. The victory of homoeopathy in acute diseases, the success of homoeopathy in cholera has been clearly illustrated with the uniqueness of the drugs and its adaptability, convertibility and the repetition of doses. The author alluringly expounded the evolution of homoeopathy by our great master Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. Clear cut cured cases have been included with the method of prescription. He has described some single remedy rubrics, homoeopathic specific remedy in aphorism 153, the explication of law of cure plays a major role in the life of physician one who genuinely wants to give cure to the patient by learning this one can safely, effectually and permanently cure the patient. The author comprehensibly stated that our way of providing therapy completely depends upon the breadth of our mind. He also mentioned the calm way of treatment by the homoeopaths. Most importantly the author has stated that we are often compelled to choose the remedy from the standpoint of diagnosis, but this method brings numerous pitfalls, so this has to be avoided. Illustrations of incipiency held from some peculiarity, often obscure with increasing tenacity. The author made us to understand the importance of the subject of energy, which is most necessary to study the homoeopathic philosophy clearly explicated the importance of vital energy in disease, the restoration of health. Importance of symptomatology which is termed as language of disease is illustrated in an authenticated manner. The structured format of taking a case have been mentioned like location, origin, the method of case taking, the modality, mind, concomitants, peculiarities and the time, which provides the physician an idea for collecting data from the patient. Apart from explaining a structured format, he has also mentioned the way of taking the case, how the case is to be collected how to reach the appropriate medicine which makes the role of physician simple. The failures faced by prescribing the remedy based on keynotes are brought into light by the author. He has beautifully added the conversations between Boger and other stalwarts. He brought into light the importance of anamnesis and its role in finding the similimum, he has extracted data from the article written by Boger in 1924 which is named as “Finding The Similimum” have illustrated with the case. The author completely removed physicians’ confusion in selecting indicated remedy by explaining it in a great manner. Apart from this he also stated the reaction by our vital force, grading of symptoms. Uses of repertory, the Boenninghausen’s article and its importance are stated. The authenticity of doctrine of signature in homoeopathy and some random notes by Boger have been included. Topic like the relationship of homoeopathy to pathology brings wider angle of thinking in the physician in order to prescribe appropriate medicine. He enhanced the view of homoeopathy in treating cancer, which made the readers to approach in a confident manner; the author elaborative gave an idea regarding treating child cases, liver disease, and tuberculosis. The action of metals upon reproductive system and handling of female related cases have been included. The description regarding strontium salts are explained clearly. He has also mentioned the utility of the remedy GYMNACLADUS as a separate chapter with case. Author made great work by compiling such book which is more helpful in understanding each and every way to attain cure. This book gives us an idea in every aspect like knowing organon, repertory and materia medica. This brings lights in the practice of physician and students by opening their eyes and rescuing them from avoiding bias. I am grateful to inscribe my review about this wonderful book. Working in father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Mangalore, since 1995 Contributed a chapter on Murphy’s Repertory in Essentials of repertorisation by Dr Shashi Kant Tiwari, has published research articles. The best book can remain undiscovered until and unless, we are inquisitive to know about it. I have heard about Robert Bannan’s collective writings on Boger’s Analysis but never had the chance to access it. As “Essentials of Boger’s Principles & Practice of Homoeopathy” contains all the collections of his articles, writings, lectures & discussions, this book can be the eye opener for many in the Homoeopathic fraternity. This book has got 66 chapters. Most of the chapter presents a new vision which was hardly known before. The followers can thoroughly accomplished this debuted with the pride that “I know boger’s concept thoroughly”. The meat of the book is far more focused on Boger’s ideas and opinions which were rarely known by the homoeopathic profession before. Each chapter has its own novelty focus and variety which was never known before. Especially the chapter on “Case Analysis “which demands greater attention for practical tips. Chapter 20 “Finding the Similimum with the help of family anamnesis according to a method by Boger” is very helpful and valuable in practice. The title of the speaks for itself, in its contribution to highlight Boger’s principles. It has been a excellent compilation by Dr Shashi Kant Tiwari to the field of Homoeopathy which will best presentation especially to under graduates & post graduates for their understanding as well as their examination purposes. Dr Shashi Kant Tiwari was my Principal, HOD and guide. He is renowned for his learning & practice hand has been called Hahnemannn of Manglore. It is only possible for him to compile such master piece. All the books written by him are useful asset for the Homoeopaths. It is indeed my great honor and pride to work with him.

We have Lectures on Homoeopathic Philosophy by Kent, Principles and Art of cure by HA Robert, The Genius of Homoeopathy by Stuart Close as guide book on principles of Homoeopathy but no book on Principle and Practice of Homoeopathy by Boger. This book fills the lacunae. The author collected various lectures and articles by Boger and complied in the form of book for the prospects of homoeopathic education and practice. In this book, several really intriguing cases are recreated and successfully handled by Boger. Reading those cured cases is incredibly enjoyable, and each case offers useful lessons. This missionary labour was completed through a thorough and exhaustive study of all relevant literature referring to homoeopathy teaching and practise during the Boger era, as well as compilation of that literature (1890-1935). This book only contains papers that were deemed to be extremely important and useful for students and practitioners. This book, Essentials of Boger’s Principle and Practice of Homoeopathy, is a “collection” to “link” the dispersed useful notions considered by Boger, which defines the fundamentals and the methodology of logical and effective clinical practise of homoeopathy. In the form of lectures, presentations, conversations with prominent contemporary thinkers and practitioners, case analyses, and recommendations by Boger at various times and circumstances on numerous platforms, these were laying unattended were included in this book. A collection of 66 essays on homoeopathy that are being presented as an assembled jewel in book form made out of extremely valuable pearls found lying at various locations is also known as a “piece of gems” or “piece of jewels” on homoeopathy. These pearls are anticipated to significantly increase the riches of homoeopathy. I recommend this book to the students’ teachers and practitioners of homoeopathy for a better simplified understanding of our principles and practice.
